Agency Days

As well as offering individual sessions for acting headshots in the studio, I also work with casting and actor management agencies to offer discounted packages for up to 30 sitters at a location of their choice. I typically provide this service for younger actors who are still at drama school, or just starting out in the industry, and who may struggle to find the funds for a full session.

I'm able to offer lower prices by making block bookings of shorter sessions, usually over the course of one day, working alongside my agency clients to work out the style of headshot that's most likely to work best across the range of clients that are attending the day, so that we can schedule consecutive sittings using the same backdrop and lighting setup. This doesn't mean that the shots need to feel dull and uniform - as well as using natural settings and classic, clean neutral backdrops, I often work with vibrant colours that really make the headshots pop and stand out from the competition - the days of black and white headshots are long gone!

I also occasionally organise studio days offering actor headshots for more experienced performers who are looking for a great headshot but are on a tight budget; even though the sessions are relatively short, there’s still enough time to work with a couple of different lighting set-up and backdrops, and to change into a different top and wear something a bit different to ensure that there’s still a good variety of shots to choose from after the shoot.

Pros and cons of group headshot days

If your casting agency is arranging a headshot day, one of the most obvious reasons for booking a slot is the price; with individual adult headshot sessions typically costing in the region of £150 to £250 with a 20% discount usually offered for younger actors, the savings are considerable when you book a shorter slot.

And although individual professional headshot sessions are usually around 90 minutes and shorter sessions are usually around 10 minutes for children’s headshots and 20 minutes for adults, there’s no reason that a shorter headshot booking should leave you feeling short-changed; after all, your casting agency knows exactly what’s important and what Casting Directors look for in headshots, and the agents I work with are always highly involved in the shoot over the course of the day, making sure that we’re capturing the looks that will be most likely to get their clients the best shots for auditions and that are right for their type.

Hair and make-up artists are also available on request for both studio and location days to make sure everyone’s looking their best, although I’ll always ensure that we’re maintaining a very natural look, especially for child actor headshots - it’s not perfect skin or your hairstyle that’s going to get you noticed, it’s all in the eyes!

The benefit of booking a longer individual session is that it allows us to explore your range more fully, increasing the likelihood of your being considered for different types of role - the headshot that might be perfect for one audition could be completely wrong for another. When it comes to submitting audition headshots to a Casting Director, your agent will already have a very clear idea of what works for you and whether it’s worth investing a little more time and money to show your range, broaden your casting potential in the industry, and give you the best chance of getting more auditions.
